NYSC corp members resign from the INEC ADHOC staff.
After the postponement of the national elections on Saturday, most corpers backed off from the INEC ADHOC staff.
Some said the condition was terrible. Sleeping outside on the grass. I sought out reports stating why the INEC postponed the National Elections.
Meanwhile, report reaching us from Enugu; The state Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps, Alhaji Ahmed Ikaka, says some corpers has to sleep in farms.
Ikaka was interviewed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). He poured out the mind of an average corper employed by INEC to work as Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers.
He said: ”Some of them who were posted to Igboeze Local Government Area of the state said they went through difficulties and even had to sleep in the farms.
”Others who were posted to Awgu Local Government Area of the state said they were already sleeping in a pavilion in an open field when the chairman of the area, Mr Stanley Okeke intervened.
Corp members deployed to different LGAs in the state expressed their experience too.
“We slept outside through out the night. The council hall was later opened for us to sleep”.
As at the time we reported this story; NYSC members said they do not wish to continue working for the commission.
Though, Ikaka said he will reached out to them, to encourage them on the need to work for the country.
On the other hand, the state Coordinator also compliment INEC on the election postponement saying it is better to delay and get it right.
Nigerian’s National Election will now hold on the Saturday 23rd February fro the Presidential and National Assembly. Governorship and State House of Assemblies will now hold on Saturday 9th March 2019.
